Overview:
The OB/GYN Sonographer is a highly skilled professional who performs a variety of complex specialized diagnostic ultrasound examinations of the female reproductive system, 1st trimester pregnancies and if applicable, high-risk pregnancies, while adhering to regulatory and professional standards to aid in the diagnosis and management of complicated gynecological medical conditions as well as early pregnancy related complications. This position utilizes high frequency sound waves along with color Doppler Ultrasound to capture images of abnormalities that assist in accurate diagnostic interpretation. The OB/GYN sonographer’s knowledge of ultrasound equipment, structured reporting, and image management in crucial for accurate diagnoses and optimal patient care.

Responsibilities:Performs routine and complex ultrasound exams utilizing ultrasonic high frequency sound waves to detect abnormalities. Follows established protocols in our department and radiology to ensure accurate and comprehensive diagnostic imaging.
Demonstrates competency in identifying gynecological abnormalities of the ovaries, tubes and uterus, identifying signs of infection and or cancer as well as procedures such as Saline Infused Sono hysterography, uterine ablation, removal of foreign body, identifying ectopic pregnancies and utilization of Doppler studies to enhance the diagnostic capabilities and treatment options available for patients.
For those assigned to Maternal Fetal Monitoring department, additional competencies in procedures such as Chorionic Villi Sampling, Amniocentesis, Amnio-reduction, and Fetal Doppler flow studies to enhance the diagnostic capabilities and treatment options available for patients.
Completes all exams and documentation consistently in Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), and the Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) reporting system to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, support quality assurance, and facilitate accurate retrieval and interpretation of patient records.
Identifies and records all charges associated with exams, proactively addressing errors and resolving issues related to the final product sent to PACS to promote financial integrity and billing accuracy.
Demonstrates commitment to safe practices, a positive culture, and adherence to ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles to minimize risks, prevent errors, and ensure the wellbeing of patients and staff.

EDUCATION:
Required: Associate degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography from a CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education) program.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: 3 years of recent OBGYN experience with extensive experience in transvaginal gynecological sonography or perinatal sonography depending on assigned location and patient population being cared for.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
Required:
Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) credential with an OB/GYN specialty through Association of Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers
American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) membership is required and must be maintained for compliance with AIUM accreditation.
