Position Summary
Assesses, plans, delegates and coordinates the nursing care for assigned patients throughout the scheduled shift according to the plan of care and in collaboration with other members of the health care team (physicians, pharmacists, dietitians, physical therapists, respiratory therapists, social workers, etc.).
A. Administration of medications and treatment, i.e., initiation and maintenance of IV meds, blood and blood products, hyperalimentation, epidural analgesia, patient controlled analgesia and chemotherapy.
B. Utilization, maintenance and charging of equipment and supplies. Checks emergency equipment/drugs for proper operation and availability every shift.
C. Maintains a safe patient and working environment by adhering to infection control and safety policies and procedures.
D. Receives physician orders, documents, follows up and evaluates patients outcomes. Assures that orders are carried out properly per policy. All orders are to be noted, signed and dated appropriately by the RN or LPN.
E. Use of fetal monitoring with interpretation and appropriate interventions.
Education/Experience: Must be currently registered in the State of Virginia. Job requires no previous clinically related nursing experience but six months Labor/Delivery desired. The employee will complete an orientation program of sufficient duration and content to prepare them for specific duties in the hospital before they administer direct patient care but at least within thirty (30) days of hire date.
Special Qualifications: CPR and NRP certification is required within 30 days of hire. Successful completion of unit specific competencies annually. ACLS preferred. AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring is required every two years and within one year of hire.
