The Registered Nurse in the OB Department provides direct and indirect patient care. He/She applies the nursing process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning. The Registered Nurse must possess good communication skills and must be able to effectively communicate with physicians, peers, patients and families. He/She works collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team to ensure quality care is delivered. The Registered Nurse working in the OB department will care for various types of patients including but not limited to antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, newborn, GYN surgery patients.
Essential Functions
Providing nursing care appropriate to the condition and needs of the patient.
Consulting and collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to provide care to the patients.
Establishing, reviewing, revising and following the patient plan of care
Administering medications and treatments within the scope of practice for a Registered Nurse
Recording patient care activities including assessment, reassessment, and ongoing treatment notes within the patient’s medical record.
Using a variety of computer systems
Operating medical equipment used in the care of the patient
Providing patient and family education related to treatment, diagnosis, medications, discharge and self-care.
Providing patient care following nursing standards of care in a manner that promotes excellent outcomes, avoids harm to patients, and promotes heath and healing.
Must be able to read and communicate effectively in English.
Must possess the ability to work under pressure, to adapt quickly in changing situations, to function dependently and independently and to be flexible in applying basic nursing knowledge to a variety of settings.

Complete all assigned education in a timely manner.

Job Requirements
Minimum Education
Associates Degree in Nursing is required.
Bachelor Degree in Nursing is preferred.
Required Licenses
[Tennessee, United States] Registered Nurse
Must have a current TN RN license or a compact state license or obtain within 30 days from date of hire.
Required Skills
BLS – current or must obtain within 90 days from date of hire.
ACLS – current or must obtain within 90 days from date of hire.
NRP – current or must obtain within 90 days from date of hire.
AWHONN Beginners Fetal Monitoring Certification – current or must obtain within 90 days from date of hire.
AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Certification – current or must obtain within 6 months from date of hire.
S.T.A.B.L.E. – current or must obtain within 90 days from date of hire.
